Kim Abraham works with a different kind of landscape where his paintings invite an encounter with a time or event that speakes of some other presence. He grew up in Georgia and every day he spent deep in the southern woods now comes back to inform and animate his paintings and drawings. He worked directly from the landscape for years and now uses a store of visual and sensory information to create studio paintings and drawings of imagined and intriguing places.
These paintings are direct and demonstarte an understanding of the texture, structure and essence of natural forms and space. There is a surface at work that points to the feel of a place and the sense of a quiet, breathing mystery that is at the heart of the Southern landscape is always at work in his paintings.
