Kim Abraham Biography
Kim Abraham works with a different notion of landscape where his paintings invite an encounter with a time or event that speaks of some other presence. The time he spent deep in the southern woods, along with many years painting directly from the outdoor landscape, now informs and animates his paintings and drawings. He taps a store of visual and sensory information to create paintings and drawings of imagined and intriguing places.
His paintings are direct and demonstrate an understanding of the texture, structure, and essence of natural forms and space. There is a surface at work that points to the feel of a place and the sense of a quiet, breathing mystery that is at the heart of the landscape, and always integral to his paintings.

Kim has exhibited widely and received a Maryland Artist Grant, a fellowship to the Ballinglen Arts Foundation in Ireland and was named as a finalist for the Bethesda Painting Awards. He also taught painting, drawing and design at Whitman College in Washington state. He was commissioned for a large painting now in the Obion Country Library in Tennessee, and has work in the collection of the Whitman College Library, Ballinglen Arts Foundation Museum in Ireland, the Alexandria, Virginia City Hall and in other collections.
