Kim Abraham Paintings
I work with a range of mediums on site and in the studio. I have spent a great deal of time paintings and studying the natural landscape. This painting done in the woods with watercolor on heavy Arches paper.
"RockCreek" watercolor on paper, 10"x8"
I work with different elements of landscape and also with many other influences. This painting was inspired by images from the Limbourg Brothers calendar that was created in 1412.
"LimbourgNite"
oil on paper, 10"x8"
This painting titled "Grandaddy's Attic" has layers of symbol and meaning. There is a background silhouette image of trees with an overlay of multitudes of small objects that represent a memory of secret journeys to my Grandfather's dark and mysterious attic to find hidden trinkets from the past. The trinkets also recall precious gumball machine treasures collected as a small child. "Grandaddy's Attic" oil on linen, 40"x40"
Fireflies is the name of this work. One of the many actors of nature I am interested in is the insect world and the beauty of an evening filled with lightening bugs in a dark woods. The nature of their lights and how they interact that is similar to the stars in our night sky is the intent of the painting. The flicker of light is fleeting, but not the residual image of the cool light emitted.
"Fireflies" oil on board, 42"x42"
I have worked with different mediums and recently have been using copper, brass and other metal plates as surfaces to work on. I prep the surface and then spray paint it followed by engraving or scratching marks into the paint and metal to reveal images that materialize and use the color of the metal as a hightlight. Recently I am adding subtle color to the images also as seen in this recent piece. Inspired by a range or influences from Asian lacquer paintings to medieval tapestries.
